Lexie is a doctor, and has a wonderful and supportive fiance in Sam, but when the unexpected call comes at 2am from her sister Annie, their lives are thrown into turmoil and they are left to make some difficult decisions.
It is in Lexie’s voice, that we see the present and look forward towards the future, and it is in Annie’s voice that we take a much darker look back into the past. And slowly as the book unfolds, we are taken on that journey with Annie, through her journal entries, back to where it all began. We get some insight into the complicated series of events that has created the tragic circumstances they find themselves in now.
And through all of it, we get to see that incredible bond between two sisters, that have lead two very different lives, but through it all, love each other so much.
It is the sort of book that hooks into you right from the first page. It draws you into the emotional chaos of addiction, mental illness and the consequences of it that tests the bond between to sisters.
At times Before I Let You Go was difficult to read, it touched on subjects that were a little too close to home, but the way in which the author handled it in such a heart warming and compassionate way, made all the difference. It kept me up till all hours of the morning, unable to put the novel down and eager to learn more about Annie and her life. And while I normally struggle when viewpoints shift in a novel, with Before I Let You Go, I didn’t mind it, and actually enjoyed the insight into the past.
Kelly Rimmer‘s Before I Let You Go, is the sort of book that hooks into you right from the first page. It draws you into the emotional chaos of addiction, mental illness and the consequences of it that tests the bond between to sisters. It was heart wrenching and at times tear jerking too, but I loved it for it, right till the last page.
Time to read: under one day.
